Istria won the Gist Travel Food Award

The Italian Association of Tourism Journalists holds an annual competition to recognize the best food and wine destinations.

At the international tourism fair TTG Travel Experience 2022, Istria was in the center of attention and was crowned with the prestigious Gist Travel Food Award – a recognition that the Italian Association of Travel Journalists dedicates every year to Italian and foreign excellence in the field of gastronomy and wine – as “Best Food & Wine Destination 2022”.

Since food is a true culture heavily influenced by its geographical location, which combines the Adriatic Sea, fertile valleys, and forests, sustainability is one of the criteria we are guided by, and great attention is paid to renewable energy sources, natural parks and ecology, it is not surprising to win such an award.

Finally, numerous gastronomic events are seasonally adapted to the territory of Istria and make it usable throughout the year. From wild asparagus in spring to autumn truffles, through award-winning wines, exceptional extra virgin olive oils, cheeses and unmissable prosciutto, as well as the presence – in such a small area – of two exclusive restaurants with a Michelin star. With this, we want to promote our outstanding products, foods and the many people behind this growing and increasingly important gastronomic and wine scene.

The recognition highlights Istria’s commitment to preserving its culinary traditions and promoting its food and wine culture to the world. The award itself certainly awakened the desire of neighbors and other countries to come to personally experience what Istria can offer and why it received such an award in the first place. We are very proud that such an award came from a country that is itself culturally rich in this matter on the market of excellence.

We’re looking forward to another successful year full of delicious wines, oils, prosciutto and thousands and thousands of delighted travelers.
