The Lim Bay-Home of the Shells

Lim Bay is a nearly 13-kilometer-long sunken karst valley. It extends deep into the interior, all the way to Pazin, forming the Lim Cove.

Lim Bay is notable for its brackish water. It had been created by subterranean sweet water in the form of a submarine karst spring emerging at the bay’s end, resulting in a much lower salinity. This environment is ideal for breeding mussels and oysters.

Over 30,000-year-old Paleolithic cave paintings, the first of the kind in Croatia, have been discovered in Romuald’s Cave, that is located on the east side of the Lim Bay.
